The right to dignity and self-determination.

Here's an extract from the Wikipedia page titled Global Citizenship

...and there is the rising feeling that citizen rights may extend to include the right to dignity and self-determination. If national citizenship does not foster these new rights, then global citizenship may seem more accessible.

...These rights can be equated with the rise of global citizenship as normative associations, indicating a national citizenship model that is more closed and a global citizenship one that is more flexible and inclusive.[13] If true, this places a strain in the relationship between national and global citizenship.

To me it is the right to self-determination that drives my personal internationalisation. What influences you?

In my case, it is self-determination plus a good measure of cantankerousness, obnoxiousness & a generally rebellious attitude.

I once read somewhere about a country that allowed its children to pick their own names when they reached a certain age.

I can't remember the country, but I do remember how impressed I was with a country that would adopt such a custom.

We need a similar custom, to allow one to pick his/her own citizenship(s), be it global, national or city-state.
